On Sunday 19th August, I presented 'Flashbax Freebies Day' on our Facebook event page, in honour of the excellent Klappstuhl Records label, and turns out I unknowingly picked the boss's birthday for it, how trippy is that!? Of course, all the free Klappstuhl albums that were up for grabs that day have long since gone, but amidst the 6½ hour 'show', I included the whole MMATT story, as it is told through our own 'best of' release on the label, "Flashbax Ω Ultimate" (SP 008, 2015). Once upon a time, there was a very old scientist from a far distant world...

Magic Moments At Twilight Time Of course, we owe Klappstuhl a great debt of gratitude for their 2015 'best of MMATT' collection, "Flashbax Ω Ultimate". Still think it's amazingly cool that it's Carsten S' birthday today though, weird.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time And let's be honest up front - sure, today is mostly about promoting MMATT coz we have that "Creavolution Reborn" CD coming out soon! Actually, there's this little green guy who has something he wants to say...

Magic Moments At Twilight Time Maybe I should give the little green guy some credit, because without him, I'd have still been playing around with ballads and comedy songs, seriously! But then came the W20 Session; a mess of cables, FX and stuff in the living room of our old dingy Frimley flat, and the very first sound that came from it was the somewhat unpromising "The Cylinder", but we all have to start somewhere, and it simply had to be included in "Flashbax"...

The MMATT 'Studio' on the day of the W20 Session, Oct. 25th 1986

Magic Moments At Twilight Time But it's back to "Flashbax" now and the moment that changed everything. Thankfully, the band didn't let me down and leave me on my own playing minimalist things like "The Cylinder". Oh no, they hopped in the Ford Escortron, came back to that October day in 1986 and helped me get it right from the very beginning. I'm sure it's the same for every new band! ;) This is "The Time Machine", enjoy muchly, hop in your Ford Escortron, then go back and enjoy it muchly again...

"The Time Machine album that came out early next year"...

Magic Moments At Twilight Time "Cover your ears" indeed! Interesting fact - the music from that comes from reversing a jam a mate and I had, a guy called Steve Jack (who is probably oblivious to this day that he ever featured on a MMATT album!), of the old Elvis song "Burning Love". Seriously, play it backwards and you can hear it! Here he is. Seriously, if you ever see this Steve, do get in touch, be great to hear from you. The two of us used to work at Blacknell Buildings in Farnborough back in '86, but sort of lost contact after my services were... er... no longer required.
