     FLASHBAX VOL. 8
    Crane Up (England)
    Fool's Paradise (Belgium) My
    Way Tapes (Germany)

A1 "Freedom Overflow" - Well, what better place to start an archive trip
than with the most recent track we've done. This was written and recorded
specially as a theme for the great pirate radio station of the same name and
just features me and Lulu The Space Bimbo. Late 1992.
A2. "Aftermath" - One of the two tracks we did under the name of The
Psychotron, that's me, Shona Moments and Kate Twilight. May '88.
A3 "Short Time Beside You" - An At Twilight Time side project, done with
poet, Mal Cieslak in August '87. 'Tis he who is responsible for the lyrics
and that awfully funny French accent, not me! The girlie is Shona, natch.
A4 "Caulphorquaets" - One of my personal faves is this, from "The At
Twilight Time Album", recorded by me, Kate and Jay Time around August '87.
A5 "State Of The Art" - And no volume of this series would be complete
without the obligatory version of "State Of The Art". This take is from the
early days when it was just me and Shona, May '87.
B1 "Us Weirdos Gotta Stick Together" - The last recording Shona Moments
did with the band, around May '89. Not originally released on "Zoen
Nostalgia" as it was intended coz the track was never fully finished, though
it did surface on "Zoen 2: Earthbound".
B2 "Zen Sequent / White Cathay" - An extract from our "White Hawk
Atomic" album, recorded live on the planet Alpha Nebuli IV in October 1990,
'tis me with Pete Program and Lulu.
B3 "Galina 3" - From "The Magic Moments Album", recorded October '87,
    the vocal version.
B4 "El Porno Boro" - Also from "The At twilight Time Album", this one is
just me and Jay, circa August '87.
B5 "We At Grain Festival" - Done as a tribute to all the bands who
played at the festival in September '87, the band's name was Ehrlich Bullet,
but it was really just me. Only previously released on the charity album,
"Grain-Aid!", which was withdrawn from sale very shortly after its release,
    sadly.

FLASHBAX VOL. 8 (My Way, Germany) This
cover was Uli Gernand's own design. I honestly have no idea what was on the
generic inlays we provided as the master sheets are long gone. Time was I
could have just whizzed back a couple of decades in the Ford Escortron and
found out. Ironic that a simple tractor could be responsible for the demise
of a space-time continuum vehicle, huh? C'est la vie...

     FLASHBAX VOL. 9
    Dizzy Positivity (UK)
    Maljugin Musik (Germany)

    A1 "Introduction / MMATT Theme / Beloglazova 2 / Zen Sequent / White Cathay"
    - Yup, a nice large chunk from our live debut, back in June '87 at the
Frimley Community Centre (gosh!), the original line up of Mick Magic, Shona
Moments, Kate Twilight and Jay Time (JATT in those days man the sound
machines. The band had been together around six weeks at the time, didn't we
    do well? Ha!
A2 "I Feel Sick" - And all the way back to the beginning, 25th October
1986, Dr. Magic solo on the W20 sessions. From this simple avant garde piece
    came "Pandora" and "Aftermath".
A3 "Trois" - Up to date now, me, Lulu The Space Bimbo and Pete Program,
from "White Hawk Atomic", recorded live on Alpha Nebuli IV, five years to
the day after the last track.
B1 "State Of The Art / Are Souls?" - And back to the live debut again,
coz we just have to include a take of "State Of The Art" on every Flashbax,
don't we? We got problems, this is the last one we have! This'll give yas a
laugh, being a debut gig, I wasn't quite used to the way the sequencers
worked at the time! But "Are Souls?" went much better, spot the early
    foundations from "The Soultakers"?
B2 "The Rock The Taxi Rap" - This one from "Zoen Nostalgia", Shona's
last album with the band, recorded around May '89 (the vocal), though the
music is an older track played backwards, which comes next...
B3 "Us Weirdos Gotta Stick Together" - ... and this is it. In the early
daze, this was like our anthem, but we think it's very silly now and are
deeply ashamed of ourselves. This take was done sometime around the Spring
of '88, especially for the "Grain-Aid!" benefit tape, features the full
    original line up. | |

FLASHBAX VOL. 9 - The generic inlay featuring a picture of me and a
young lad called John Blundell. It was one of a couple taken by Aldershot
News photographer, Neil Jackson, to accompany an article in the local paper,
though not the one finally used. I'd been taking John to Freemantles School
in Windlesham, an excellent centre for children with a range of special
needs, for quite some time, in my secret identity life as a taxi driver. He
was a nice kid and absolutely loved music (ironically, Michael Jackson was
his favourite!), so when he was coming to the end of his time at Freemantles,
I'd arranged a little treat visit to the MMATT studio for him. "So what's
your ambition when you grow up?" asked Pop Scene journalist, Adrian Creek.
Quick as a flash, John answers "I want to join Mick's band!" | |
