The mighty Cock Batteth; Anjie Mosher on drums (and rude
hat), Roger Ramjet on bass (token male), Natalie Bear on guitar & vocals,
here seen trying to hide under my anarchy t-shirt, in spite of being the
pretty one (sorry, Roger), caught on the bill with Dead Pollys and 999 at
The Continental, Preston.

And finally, back to the present, where we
close the original show with this fun loving Blackpool punk trio performing
a track from their "Bog Standard" EP (that's what it's called, I'm not being
insulting, promise) live in Nine Backward. They rock...

And talking of Dead Pollys
(under the photos at the top, keep up), Juba Nurmeniemmi is back on the show
tonight with Pseudo Sun, veteran Swedish space rockers from the glory days
of Music & Elsewhere, and here's a nice shiny photo of me and him at The
Continental gig. They let me run the merch stall, which was very brave of
them, though my kleptomania is under better control these days. So long as I
remember to take my meds. I did nick a badge though...

Also on tonight's show are New
Zero God, fronted by former Flowers Of Romance singer and host of The
Blackout Radio Show, Mike Pougounas. The band had an album on M&E and Mike
was always a keen networker in those cassette culture days, so we were
always going to get together should he head our way from Piraeus in Athens.
The picture above left here is a bit of a blast from the past; summer of
1995, the band were over here doing something with Wayne Hussey, so Sam and
I went up (we lived in the south east in those days) to Shepherd's Bush
(south west London) to meet up with him. Having already got me extremely
drunk on ouzo before it was dark, we retired to a pub on the corner of the
green for the evening to continue drinking. How I stood up long enough to
take this photo I honestly don't know. Maybe Sam took it and I'm laying
comatose on the floor out of frame, who knows? So, two guys to the left I
seem to recall were from Vendemmian, then there's the bloke from Wipe Out
Records in Greece, then Mike on the right. Great night. For those concerned
about road safety, Sam drove home. Amazingly, I managed to direct her all
the way, 30 miles plus. Don't remember a thing about it. The kebab was nice
though...
And
no less than three bands on the show from the Bats In Attic gothfest we went
to (courtesy of Niklas Carlsson, thank you!) at The Alhambra in Morecambe
back in September. Backstage posers - left to right: that's meself with the
Darklord himself, Trevor Bamford of Chaos Bleak and Nightbreed Records; then
there's our Sam sat in between Atreyo and Nik of Dark Side Cowboys; and
finally our Twizz (who prefers to be called Jaxx now, they grow up so fast)
in a dead cool snap with Holly from Social Youth Cult. As ever, my thanks to
all the artistes who contributed to making the show what it is, an aural
experience for people who should know better... |
