Captain Anarchy & Dr. Igor Amokian - Sci Fi Cues Vol. 2 (Excerpt 1)
From the album "Sci-Fi Cues Vol. 1 / Vol. 2", the first of four excerpts (if
the picture looks familiar, you may remember we played a chunk of Volume 1
last month) peppering our show with psychotronic quark, strangeness and
charm, courtesy of the circuit bending maestro we love so much we named a
character in the show after him. We should go the whole hog and have a Chris
Holland on board too. Watch this space! We still don't know who Captain
Anarchy is though and nobody's talking...

The Phlod-Nar - Homunculus (Extravert)
First time on the show in nearly two years for
this excellent Belgian electro-experimental project, really should have them
on more often if this track is anything to go by. It's the absolute standout
on the Camembert Électrique compilation, "Low Pressure Systems", also
featuring on the artiste's own "Nomen Nescio" album. Randolf Smeets was kind
enough to provide a less than five minutes radio edit, but we wanted much
more, so we made our own lengthier version from the full 13 minute version.
Who says you can't have your cake and eat it? We had ours with whipped cream
on...

03. Emmanuele Gattuso -
Scorpion Drowning In The River
A second track from the nostalgically titled "Hisstape"
album by this interesting Italian sound creator. There's a beautifully
haunting quality to this track, it didn't catch my ear first time around,
but when I went back for seconds, there it was, beckoning me to the rocky
shoreline like a spectre on
helium...

Delphium - Robot Man
Fellow
Camberley escapee Jonathan Forde comes up with another winning album of
electronic variants, "Dark Forces" (also available on limited edition CD),
from which this track leapt out by means of title before I'd listened to a
single note! Luckily, it lived up to its promise, as does the vast majority
of the album. Guaranteed to be loved by mechanoids everywhere...

Melophobia & Substak
So Melophobia you'll know; this is the work of
Dimitris Tsironis (aka Olympus Cosmos), the man behind Default Standard
Records (note the sneaky plug in the radio script), who released the Magic
Bullet album "Kollaboratis", plus collaborated with us on "Man + Machine 2 :
Unification / Assimilation". This time he's working with Substak, aka Kostas
Staikos, based in Athens, a brand new name to us, so we know nothing. Yet.
This oddly titled track comes from the equally oddly titled "+θ/esis" album.
We like odd...

08. Bedouin Drone + Brainquake
- Night Move
I think it was exactly a year ago we last had
Brainquake on the show, a track from that excellent collaboration with Gross
Gadgetto, "Dehumanize The World". Bedouin Drone, on the other hand, is as
yet a complete unknown to us, save from also being based in Belgium. This
co-production, an album called "Mood Starters", has some unusual flavours,
being both atmospheric and creepy (not in a bad way), as well as having some
interesting interpretations of flavours from the Arab world. Curious stuff
indeed...

09. Univers III - Octogone
A second appearance on the show for French
musician Michel Villar's electronic project, this time selecting the dark
and moody tonal soundscape the album takes its name from. What more can one
say? An ear either side of your head and you'll get this for yourself. To be
listened to via headphones in your garden at midnight...

Black Wick Meets Joy Lane - Beyond The Glass Door Window
This is the work of one Joshua Rogers, the man
behind the Illuminated Paths label, and very obviously a mate of our Dr.
Igor Amokian (other side of the U.S.A. mind), thus immediately promoted to
our good books. Can't tell you a thing about Joy Lane though, one of those
mysteries, maybe it's Captain Anarchy, who knows!? Either way, it's become
Weslee Crumble's favourite bedtime story, though we had to do a little bit
of censorship for U.S. radio, subtly masking a few profanities, the odd
'piss', 'shit' and f-word. But when it come to the UK broadcast, absolutely
no changes necessary, we're totally fucking feral over here...

Christine Plays Viola - Jackie's Curse
And a smokin' piece of gothic punk to bring
the show to a suitable climax, this month's 'live in Nine Backward' slot
going to this classy and cool as fuck Italian darkwave band. Not their first
time on the show, we had a track from their previous album on back in
February. This one, however, comes from this year's model, "F.I.V.E. Fear
Increases Violent Emotions". Had me and Jaxx pogoing round the living room
and stage diving off the coffee table. There was some head bumping, but it
was worth it...
