HAL-90: Captain, can you hear us?

Dr. Igor Amokian: Our scanners are showing it to be some kind of probe, barely point six of a metre tall.

Kawaquad 'K-Bot' Amokabot: Boopity boopity (well how would YOU write it down?)

Dr. Igor Amokian: Kawaquad Amokabot is trying to interface with it, but it only appears to want to connect with the captain.

Slay 'Number One' Skibidy: Keep trying. How are his vital signs, Dr. Crumble?

Dr. Weslee Crumble: His blood pressure and heart rate are slightly elevated, but I’m more concerned with his neural activity, it’s off the chart.

Slay 'Number One' Skibidy: It doesn’t appear to have shielding, a single inventatron torpedo would destroy it.

Dr. Weslee Crumble: No, I think disconnecting the captain suddenly could harm his brain.

Dr. Igor Amokian: Black Saturn and myself have an idea...

Dr. Weslee Crumble: I’m a bit busy just now, write it down.

04. Black Saturn & Igor Amokian - Write It Down

A bit of a collaboration from experimental rap artist, Black Saturn, and the 'our world version' of Igor Amokian, one either side of the U.S.A. (California to D.C.), two very different aspects of the experimental universe. We've had a track from this album before, "Cosmic BackSpin", then you add the 'slightly bent' in brackets. And that's gonna be Igor's contribution, a bit of serious circuit bending. Dr. Crumble never did come back to their idea, so maybe it wasn't a good one. But we thought it was, so there...

Sylvia Masheen: Thoughts anybody? Kris?

Kris Van Kamper, who plays Dr. Amokian: The cylinder seems to have formed a connection with Mick somehow, look at his eyelids, R.E.M., like he’s dreaming... I recall reading Jon Shuemaker’s book, ‘Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites’, there was the perfect description in that for the current state of mind Mick must be in, he called it ‘the ministry of lost waves’.

05. Jon Shuemaker & Julien Ash - Ministry Of Lost Waves

Jon Shuemaker plus bowed strings? Does it get any better than this? Hands across the ocean for this fascinating collaboration, U.S.A. to France, adding a touch of leftfield rock to underground chamber music. Okay, I know that sounds odd (not as odd as Kris Van Kamper's pronunciation of Nouvelles Lectures Cosmopolites, Julien's usual project, for which he apologises profusely - no, hang on, that sounds wrong; this isn't Julien apologising for his NLC project, he wouldn't have any reason too, it's very good, it's Kris apologising for mutilating it's pronunciation - there, that's better, I understand that bit now - apologies for the waffling), but work with me and collect your reward...

* SCENARIO II: The Bridge *

Captain Riz Sigma: Yes... Kris.

Dr. Patel: Dr. Amokian, the Captain, why did he call you Kris?

Dr. Amokian: Let’s be grateful he managed to get a word out at all, he’s down very deep. The book I was referring to, it’s based on the theory of multiple universes. It’s possible that in a parallel universe, he is not Riz Sigma and that my name is Kris something. We could all have counterparts in another dimension. I think the captain was trying to give us a clue as to what is happening.

06. John Hardin - Interdimensional Transport

Here's a newbie to the show, and this guy sounds like the real deal, living 'off grid' in the woods of northern California and recording with largely home made instruments in a solar powered studio! Wow, I mean, this is like the underground version of Grizzly Adams, except John's bear is called Buttercup. No, I just made that last bit up. He doesn't have a bear. Well, not one that he's mentioned. You'd share something like that, wouldn't you? Okay, I'm thinking no bear. So, music and this "EtherAir" album; didgeridoo, theremin (I wonder if that's home made?), field recordings, all of which generate a nice elektroid drone kind of feel, pulsing with interstellar life and cosmic vitality. We stuck around for the cool music, a bit jealous that we didn't live in the woods. Even though there's no Spar shop. The bear left coz it thought Buttercup was a bit of a nancy name for a grizzly. Fair point...

Dr. Patel: Sylvia, Mick just called you 'Number One', like he is confused between reality and the parts we play in the radioshow.

07. Joerg Dankert - Transition

And another appearance on the show for dedicated Berlin school electronic musician, Joerg Dankert, this one coming from the new album, "25.10.01//MISSION_LOG//26.09.01", and I quote, "mapping the human experience through the lens of deep-space telemetry." I liked the sound of that to start with. The selected track was something of standout for me, a kind of plaintive piano sound, a lot warmer than the icy cold -269K (allowing for 'big bang' background radiation) of the cosmos...

* SCENARIO II: The Bridge: PHONE-IN *

o

We know it didn't work that well last time, just kept getting that 'Lucky Sid' guy, calling from the green room in Nine Backward and harping on about Smarties (other sugar coated candies are available), but the crew felt it worth another attempt. And the first caller to get through this time around was regular listener Jerry Kranitz from Columbus, Ohio. Welcome to the show, Jerry...

08. Dark Side Cowboys - Scavenger Song

In memory of Scavenger John, a semi-regular member of the DSC's, who died in March after a mere 54 years on planet Earth. I had the pleasure of meeting up with the band last autumn at Bats In The Attic in Morecambe, really nice bunch of folk. Although John (Johan really) wasn't with them for their visit to the UK, I still kind of feel that loss for them, thus it's an honour to get their excellent memorial to him on the show, and a suitably gothic piece of western melodrama it is, with all the hallmarks of a band who have been playing together for more than three decades. Following a single release in April, this track now features on the new album, "Absolution & Restoration", out a fortnight before this edition of the show airs. Join us in raising a glass of whiskey...
